We call you to actively engage in a cause that matters and help our sisters and brothers survive a genocide. The overarching goal of “Walk for Gaza” is to raise funds for Gaza through Al-Khair Relief Society. Money raised will either go towards the waqf school initiative, food or other aid, depending on urgent needs at the time. The day is set for July 18th, 2026, and the time and location are flexible, meaning it is possible for people to participate in different towns and cities. Pledges gathered are to be sent by e-transfer at alkhair@tuta.com, or if by other means, please contact Aisha at alkhair@tuta.com. Whether you would like to meet and walk with us (Vancouver Island) or walk independently please again contact Aisha for more details and to register.
In Gaza, people are forced to walk all day, with heavy loads, just for their survival. A part of the suggested training and an exercise in empathy is to accomplish all your errands and commutes by walking for a day. I also encourage walkers to spend a portion of their walks in dhikr and dua (prayer) for Palestine.
For those that are unfamiliar with the concept of a walkathon: A walkathon is when a group of people commit to walking a certain distance. It can be done together on a planned route, or independently. Before the day of the walk, each walker finds people to pledge money per kilometer walked on said day. Example: Laura’s mom pledges $10 per km that Laura walks. Laura walks 11 km on walk day and later gathers $110 from her mother. She also collected $1100 from her best friend ($100 per km) and $11 from her coworker ($1 per km).
Every bit matters! And if you would rather pledge donations for one of our walkers please reach out to us!
